2013 Test Schedule Change
March Writing: Students in grades 3-8 will be tested in 2013.

The PASS writing tests for grades 3-8 are administered over two days in March. For each grade level (3-8), the test consists of one extended-response item ("Time to Write") administered on Day 1 and multiple-choice items administered on Day 2. Students will be able to use a dictionary or thesaurus for the extended-response item, but not for the multiple-choice items. Click on the links below for the test blueprint, sample items, and a sample answer document.

Students' extended responses are scored in the four domains (content and development, organization, voice, and conventions) that have been used in the past. The extended response rubric for grades 3-8 was updated for PASS to reflect the 2008 English language arts (ELA) academic standards. A copy of the rubric is included in the writing answer document. The "Time to Write" directions included in the writing answer document were also updated. A statewide committee of ELA educators assisted with these revisions. Click on the links below to view the final version of both the rubric and the "Time to Write" directions.
