AT&T Introduces December 2012 SC African American Calendar Honoree: David A. Williams

David A. Williams, December HonoreeCOLUMBIA, S.C., December 1, 2012 -- The AT&T SC African American History Calendar is pleased to present our December 2012 Honoree, David A. Williams, and his biography to you.

December's Honoree, David A. Williams, or "Daddy Ag," as he is famously known in Nesmith, has made his mark in South Carolina agriculture. In a career that began as a vocational agriculture teacher in the 1950s and 1960s, Williams was also a cotton and tobacco farmer. He later shifted his crops to muscadine grapes and in 24 years has transformed part of his farm to a five-acre vineyard.

We believe the AT&T SC African American Calendar website could play an important role in your recognition of the noteworthy accomplishments of African Americans in our state. We hope you will consider presenting the new calendar on your website as well as links to it in your print or other communications to promote African American History.

About the AT&T SC African American History Calendar
Launched in 1989, the AT&T SC African American History Calendar is designed to assist students in learning more about the contributions of distinguished African-Americans who have connections to the state. The calendar was originally created to assist the SC Department of Education in meeting statutory requirements for the inclusion of African-American history in the curriculum. It has since emerged as a global resource for recognizing the achievements of African-Americans with South Carolina ties. The web site - www.scafricanamerican.com - also includes information on past honorees, as well as resources for educators and links to other materials related to South Carolina's African American history.

The South Carolina Department of Education, South Carolina Educational Television (ETV), The State Newspaper, WIS-Television, and the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications are the collaborative partners that continue to contribute to the success of the calendar.
